認知症の社会的コストSocietal cost of dementia

認知症の問題は、当事者やその家族だけでなく、社会全体の問題です。急速な高齢化が進むわが国では、認知症患者の急速な増加が予測されています。しかし、それが社会にどの程度のインパクトがあるのかといったことについては、まだよくわかっていないのが実情です。そうした状況を踏まえ、当センターの佐渡充洋医師と厚生労働科学研究の共同研究グループは、認知症の社会的費用を推計し、年間約 14.5 兆円（医療費：1.9 兆円、介護費：6.4 兆円、インフォーマルケアコスト：6.2 兆円）に上る可能性があることを明らかにしました。

Dementia is not only the individual or the family’s problem but also of society. In our rapidly ageing society, the number of people with dementia is predicted to increase. However, the extent of the impact of dementia on society is still not well understood. In light of this situation, Dr Mitsuhiro Sado of the Center and a joint research group of the Health, Labour and Welfare Science Research Institute estimated the social costs of dementia to be approximately 14.5 trillion yen per year (medical costs: 1.9 trillion yen, long-term care costs: 6.4 trillion yen, informal care costs: 6.2 trillion yen).
